WikiLeaks for Dutch nature

Dutch nature-conservation organisation, Das&Boom, is calling upon Dutch civil servants to leak secret documents on the current nature conservation policy. Civil servants should upload secret plans, reports and letters to a new website: www.blekerleaks.nl, named after WikiLeaks and Dutch undersecretary Henk Bleker.

The NSA has today published its Best Practices for keeping your home network secure. The cyber threat is no longer limited to your office network and work persona. Adversaries realize that targets are typically more vulnerable when operating from their home network since there is less rigor associated with the protection, monitoring, and maintenance of most home networks. Home users need to maintain a basic level of network defense and hygiene for both themselves and their family members when accessing the Internet.

Tracking down your home address through Facebook … in one minute

A stark warning is being issued to parents ahead this month’s Easter break, with figures revealing the extent to which their children’s social media habits are increasing the risk of holiday burglaries. The findings, published by The Co-operative Travel, reveal that 51% of children regularly update their social media accounts to say when they are due to go on family holidays, alerting potential burglars to the fact their home is empty.

KLPD: Number of breaches higher than ever

Data loss through cyber attacks decreased sharply in 2010, but the total number of breaches was higher than ever, according to the “Verizon 2011 Data Breach Investigations Report.” These findings continue to demonstrate that businesses and consumers must remain vigilant in implementing and maintaining security practices.
